What are horizontal bike racks?
Horizontal bike storage racks hold cycles parallel to the ground. The design allows for the frame or the wheel to be locked. Bikes lean on the frame, which prevents them from toppling, falling or scratching.
Types of Bike Racks — Horizontal
Wall Mounted
Horizontal bike rack wall mounts attach to a wall, holding the bike horizontally. This setup saves floor space as bike racks are placed at a height, such as above car bonnets. Wall mounts can accommodate 1-2 bikes and are typically adjustable for height.
Surface Mounted
Surface-mounted horizontal bike holders rest on the ground. These racks can be anchored to any solid surface, making them suitable for outdoor or public spaces. They are sturdy and easy to install. What materials are typically used in a bike rack horizontal?
Classic Architecture Group offers horizontal bike holders in 3 materials:
- Stainless Steel: Stainless steel mounts are highly resistant to rust and corrosion. This makes them ideal for harsh outdoor environments. They require very little maintenance.
- Galvanised Steel: Galvanisation (a zinc coating) provides good protection against rust and corrosion. These bike racks are resistant to chipping and scratching.
- Black Powder Coat: Classic Architecture Group’s wall-mounted horizontal rack is made of steel and has a black powder coat, which makes the bike racks resistant to scratches and chips. This finish is also weather-resistant.
Can horizontal bike stands accommodate all bike types?
Yes, horizontal bike storage products can accommodate all standard bikes, including mountain bikes and e-bikes.
How much space do I need for horizontal bike storage?
The amount of space you need depends on the size of the rack. Hoops are singular bike stands and need less space, but bike racks with bigger capacities (like the MultiPark model with 10-bike capacity) will need more space.
According to AS2890, all bike racks require a minimum space of 1000mm on either side.
Do horizontal bike racks damage the walls they are mounted on?
No, as long as horizontal bike rack wall mounts are installed correctly and reinforced with appropriate anchors, they do not cause any damage to the walls. While installing, ensure that you do not drill over plumbing and/or electrical conduits.
