Project Details

In 2021, construction commenced on the $59 million project to deliver the Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre (NARC).

The new aquatic centre has indoor and outdoor pools as well as increased opportunities to participate in health and wellbeing activities, through larger and additional programming spaces and an added warm water pool for exercise and rehabilitation.

NARC is a 6 Star Green Star rated facility, demonstrating The City of Darebin’s commitment to and leadership in climate action and in delivering innovative environmentally sustainable projects.

The design was shaped by consultation with the community and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and has been completed by Architects, Warren and Mahoney and Kane Construction.

The project reached Practical Completion in October 2023.

Key Deliverables

Classic Architectural group was engaged by Kane Construction to supply and install a variety of products from our extensive range, this included Integra Entrance Matting, Tredfx Safety Stair Nosings and Tactiles, Bike Racks and Car Park Bollards. Our team also conducted extensive LRV testing onsite, ensuring all installed Classic products met the required safety standards.

A requirement from the City of Darebin included a preference for suppliers based within the Darebin area. With Classic being Preston based we easily ticked that box and enjoyed being able to see the progress of the project, located just down the road from our office.

The City of Darebin also required the project to meet a 6-Star Green Star sustainability rating – a demanding target for aquatic facilities. This was achieved using a wide range of techniques including large scale photovoltaic arrays on roof surfaces and carefully selected products and materials throughout the build.
