Charles St Square.
The Charles Street Square project involved intricate spatial challenges such as steep gradients, hydrology complexities, mature trees, diverse stakeholders, and historical aspects. This new public space in Parramatta, bridges Charles and Phillip Streets to Parramatta River, aligning with Parramatta Wharf, this project is a keystone of the extensive Parramatta City River Strategy Activation Plan. The design comprises a series of sweeping, gentle curves that respond and embrace the fluid form of Parramatta River. The curves form a series of terraces and ramps that mediate three distinct levels – Riverfront, Mid-terrace and Street level – providing a continuous accessible path and river facing Amphitheatre.
